Oregon, Penn State, and Wisconsin Take Home Weekly Men’s Indoor Track and Field Awards

Ducks' Birnbaum, Nittany Lions’ Burkhart, and Badgers' Risser score weekly awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 3-10, 2025.  

Track Athlete of the Week  
Simeon Birnbaum, Oregon 
Sophomore – Distance – Rapid City, S.D. – Major: BADM 

  • Finished third in the 3,000m at the BU Colyear-Danville Opener in Boston 
  • His time of 7:39.65 is best in the Big Ten and third in the NCAA 
  • The sophomore also broke the nine-year-old Oregon school record in the event 
  • Birnbaum ranks as the No. 21 all-time performer in collegiate history 
  • This marks Oregon’s first Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award  

 

Field Athlete of the Week 
Collin Burkhart, Penn State 
Grad. Student – Throws – Nazareth, Penn. – Major: Business Administration 

  • Won the men’s weight throw at the Bucknell Opener 
  • Tallied a 20.38m (66-10.5) throw, which was best in the event 
  • Last Penn State Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Luke Knipe (Feb. 23, 2022)

 

Freshman of the Week 
Henry Risser, Wisconsin 
Freshman – Mid-distance – Golden Valley, Minn. – Major: Undeclared 

  • Won the 600m at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener 
  • His time of 1:17.09 is second best in school history and 70th-fastest time ever in the event 
  • This marks Wisconsin’s first Indoor Freshman of the Week award 

 

2025-26 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week 
Dec. 10 
Track: Simeon Birnbaum, ORE 
Field: Collin Burkhart, PSU 
Freshman:  Henry Risser, WIS
