Big Ten Announces 2024 Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Postseason Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2024 Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field postseason individual award recipients on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches.

Penn State’s Cheickna Traore was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Nebraska’s Till Steinforth was voted for Field Athlete of the Year and Ohio State’s Braxton Brann was named Freshman of the Year.

Penn State’s Hayley Kitching was selected as the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Rutgers’ Chloe Timberg was selected as the Field Athlete of the Year and Minnesota’s Anthonett Nabwe was named Freshman of the Year.

Traore claimed first-team All-America in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the 2024 NCAA Division l Indoor Track and Field Championships and was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships earlier this month. Steinforth placed seventh in the long jump (7.874 meters) and third in the heptathlon (6140) at the NCAA meet and earned two first-team All-America citation. Brann earned the Freshman of the Year title after strong performances in the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships, where he placed second in the 200 meter (20.69) and 60 meter hurdles (7.71).

Kitching claimed first-team All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run (2:02.16) at the NCAA Indoor Championships along with winning the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships weeks prior. Timberg earned a third place finish at the NCAA championships in the pole vault (4.45 meters) to earn a first-team All-America title as well as winning the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships award. Nabwe finished 16th overall in the weight throw (20.08 meters) at the NCAA Indoor Championships, earning a second-team All-American finish.

Earlier this month, the Big Ten announced the award recipients for Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships and Coach of the Year, as well as the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honorees.
