Nittany Lions’ Traore and Caron, Illini’s Sudduth, Wolverines Sutherland, Scarlet Knights’ Timberg recognized
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State graduate student Cheickna Traore, Illinois senior Tyler Sudduth, Penn State junior Florence Caron, Michigan junior Savannah Sutherland, and Rutgers junior Chloe Timberg have received Big Ten Weekly Honors for outdoor track and field competitions during the week of April 10-16, 2024.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Cheickna Traore, Penn State
Graduate – Sprinter – Linden, N.J. – Major: Master’s Certificate in Leading in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Finished second in the 200M at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Florida
Posted a time of 20.25, just 0.02 seconds off his school record time
Recorded the second fastest time in the Big Ten this season
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Tyler Sudduth, Illinois
Senior – Thrower – Richton Park, Ill.
Won the shot put at the Gary Wieneke Memorial, hosted by the University of Illinois, with a throw of 19.85M, second best in program history
Recorded the best throw in the Big Ten and sixth best in the nation this season
Finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.90M, sixth best in program history

Florence Caron, Penn State
Junior – Distance – La Malbaie, Quebec – Major: Linguistics
Broke Penn State’s 46-year-old 5K record at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, with a time of 15:32.22
Sliced 0.3 seconds from Kathy Mills’ 1978 mark, breaking the oldest standing school record
Posted the fastest time in the Big Ten this season by nearly seven seconds
Women’s Track Co-Athlete of the Week
Savannah Sutherland, Michigan
Junior – Sprints/Hurdles – Borden, Saskatchewan – Major: Biology, Health, and Society
Won the 400M hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational with a time of 54.86
Recorded the best time in the NCAA and in the world
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Chloe Timberg, Rutgers
Junior – Thrower – Doylestown, Pa. – Major: Exercise Science
Broke the program record with a pole vault of 4.56M (14-11.5) at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University
Jumped to the top of the NCAA leaderboard by 2.5 inches and the Big Ten leaderboard by 7.5 inches
