ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten announced the 2024-25 Men’s Swimmers and Divers to Watch on Wednesday, featuring one swimmer and one diver from each of the nine men’s swim and dive programs. The watch list was determined by the conference’s head coaches.&nbsp; The list features five First Team All-Big Ten selections and three Second Team honorees from last season. &nbsp; Featured on the list is Indiana’s Carson Tyler returns for the Hoosiers as the reigning National Champion on both the 3-meter and platform. Tyler was named the Big Ten Diver of the Year and Diver of the Championships, helping Indiana to its third consecutive Big Ten Championship and a fourth overall finish at the 2024 NCAA Championships.&nbsp; Also on the preseason list is Michigan’s Gal Groumi who was named the Swimmer of the Championships. The season is set to unofficially begin this weekend with intersquad meets prior to the official start of the 2024-25 campaign on Friday, Oct. 4. ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference today officially admitted the University of Oregon, UCLA, USC and the University of Washington, bringing the total number of member institutions to 18. University of Oregon, UCLA, USC and University of Washington Officially Join Big Ten Conference

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its annual postgraduate scholarship recipients on Wednesday, recognizing two student-athletes from each of the 14 Big Ten member institutions who plan to continue their education at a graduate degree program. These honorees will be awarded a $7,500 scholarship, based primarily on academic achievements. This year’s recipients, who represent 15 different sports, will continue their education in a variety of different disciplines. Each Big Ten institution developed its own on-campus selection process when awarding the scholarships. Student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point average (GPA), demonstrated leadership qualities, served as an excellent role model and intended to continue their academic work beyond their baccalaureate degree at a graduate degree program. The Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship will be used to pay expenses of the student’s postgraduate education to include such related activities as research and teaching, as well as other expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, required course-related supplies and books. To retain the scholarship, the recipient must be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program within three years from the fall semester after selection. Big Ten Conference Announces 2024 Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference is celebrating its 110th class of recipients who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor from their respective institutions during the 2023-24 academic year. Established in 1915, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is the conference’s most prestigious award. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on athletics. The Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution who has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their collegiate career. This year’s class comprised student-athletes from 17 sports. Big Ten schools currently feature more than 9,800 student-athletes, but only 28 earn the award on an annual basis. Since the Big Ten Medal of Honor was first presented more than a century ago, just over 1,650 student-athletes have earned this unique distinction. NCAA and Autonomy Conferences Agree on Settlement

WEST LAFAYETTE&nbsp;– In a move to focus on his health and family, Purdue Diving head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://purduesports.com/sports/mens-swimming-and-diving/roster/coaches/adam-soldati/2491">Adam Soldati</a>&nbsp;will pass the torch of leading the Boilermakers to protégé and Olympic champion&nbsp;<a href="https://purduesports.com/sports/womens-swimming-and-diving/roster/coaches/david-boudia/2500">David Boudia</a>&nbsp;due to Soldati's recent diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

 Soldati has been the leader of the Purdue Divers since being hired in 2005. Simultaneously, he has also enjoyed success when his divers compete as part of USA Diving. He plans to coach the Boilermakers through the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June and will assist Boudia as needed through the Olympic Games in the late summer. Always a devoted family man and father of six, Soldati's faith, perspective and perseverance will lay the foundation for the fight ahead.

 "Since the spring of 2005,&nbsp;<a href="https://purduesports.com/sports/mens-swimming-and-diving/roster/coaches/adam-soldati/2491">Adam Soldati</a>&nbsp;has invested every bit of himself into Purdue University and our incredibly successful diving program," said Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics&nbsp;Mike Bobinski. "He has impacted and provided counsel and leadership to countless people – student-athletes, families, fellow coaches and staff – in positive and extraordinary ways. And true to his persona, he has approached the unfathomable challenge of receiving life-altering news with dignity, faith, courage and optimism.&nbsp; A testament to Adam's steadfast and unwavering leadership of our diving program is that he has mentored and prepared&nbsp;<a href="https://purduesports.com/sports/womens-swimming-and-diving/roster/coaches/david-boudia/2500">David Boudia</a>, a former Purdue student-athlete, to carry forward our tradition of success.&nbsp; Adam's positive imprint on this athletics department, this campus and this community is permanent.  As Boudia ascends to Purdue head coach, Soldati will move to the role of director of diving for the short term. Boudia officially came aboard as a full-time assistant coach in the summer of 2021, with the understanding he would one day succeed Soldati as the leader of the Boilermakers.

 After more than a year of doctor visits and tests, Soldati was officially diagnosed with ALS in February. Due to the timing of the diagnosis coinciding with the start of swimming &amp; diving's NCAA championship season, Purdue's student-athletes were later informed in early April.

 "As I reflect on my past 19 years with our Boilermaker family, I am overcome with gratitude and thankfulness," Soldati said. "I rejoice in the relationships that Kimiko, our children and I have built here at Purdue and in Greater Lafayette. We have nothing but the greatest love and respect for so many people who have been part of our lives.

 &nbsp;"I have always said that it's not my job to create a champion but create an environment where you can become one. Purdue has afforded me that opportunity each and every year that I have been privileged to lead this program. The level of commitment by the administration to pursue excellence, invest in innovation and believe in dreams has been the fuel that ignited this program to one of the best in the country – and I am so appreciative that they took the chance on a young, passionate coach in 2005. From the administration, coworkers, support staff, facility crews and to my student-athletes and their families, this beautiful and robust environment at Purdue is a rare find in collegiate sports. The familial love, care and support is truly second to none.

 "It brings tears to my eyes as I think of all the athletes I have had the opportunity to coach, pour into, and Lord willing, help guide them along their path to adulthood.  Soldati and his wife,&nbsp;Kimiko Hirai Soldati, an Olympian for Team USA in 3-meter diving in 2004, are the parents of six children (ages 10-18). The family has begun the initial stages for the fight ahead, one that Adam will face gallantly with the same gratefulness, guts and grit that have made him one of Purdue Athletics' most successful coaches over the last 20 years.

 Boudia's status as Purdue Athletics' most-decorated athlete ever was made possible via a kinship with Soldati – a bond between an athlete and a coach that propelled Boudia to achieve overarching success collegiately, nationally and internationally all while training at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Their lives changed forever when Boudia won gold on 10-meter at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The three-time Olympian is a four-time medalist for Team USA. He also won five medals in his career at the World Aquatics Championships. For Purdue, Boudia was a six-time NCAA champion and eight-time Big Ten Conference champion, winning CSCAA Diver of the Year at all three NCAA Championships in which he competed.

 With Soldati's expertise, wisdom and perspective providing the bedrock of the program, the Purdue Divers have won 14 NCAA national championships since 2009. At USA Diving national championship meets, Soldati's pupils have won 34 titles. Steele Johnson and Brandon Loschiavo have won national titles at both levels while also earning the right to call themselves Olympians.&nbsp;<a href="https://purduesports.com/sports/womens-swimming-and-diving/roster/maycey-vieta/12772">Maycey Vieta</a>&nbsp;has already qualified for the Olympic Games this summer.

 Over the last 19 NCAA seasons, the Boilermakers have produced a bevy of All-Americans (athletic and academic), Big Ten champions, Big Ten Divers of the Year, Purdue Athletes of the Year and University graduates. The Burke Aquatic Center bears the name of the man that hired Soldati, the late Morgan Burke, who served as Purdue's athletics director from 1993-2016. It was Burke's vision of developing champions, scholars and citizens that Soldati and the Purdue Divers always made a reality at an unprecedented level.

 "When Wenbo decided to take the USA Diving head coach position, I reached out to a handful of diving coaches I respected. To a tee, they all said it should be Soldati. When I picked Adam up at the old Indy airport, I was still skeptical of his 'IU-ness.' But by the time we got to 465 North – and back in those days it was less than two minutes – I knew he was the guy. In fact, we had to get this guy.

 "One of my favorite passages of Scripture is from Hebrews 13:2 – 'Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.' It can be interpreted many ways: Adam was a stranger at first but an angel for me. I believe everyone who came in contact with him indeed was blessed to be visited by this angel. He changed me as a coach, but more importantly as a friend, brother in Christ and one who always gave me honest advice – not necessarily what I wanted to hear, but what I needed to hear.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Six Big Ten men’s swimming and diving student-athletes were selected as College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2023-24 Academic All-Americans today.Indiana’s Quinn Henninger and Josh Matheny were named to the Division I Academic All-America First Team. Matheny was named to the Second Team in 2022-23. Tomer Frankel and Carson Tyler were named to the Second Team.Ohio State’s Lyle Yost earned Second Team recognition and Minnesota’s Bar Soloveychik was named to the Third Team.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Six Big Ten Men’s Swimmers & Divers Earn CSC Academic All-America Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced its 2024 Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving postseason award recipients on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches.&nbsp;&nbsp;Indiana’s Brendan Burns was named Swimmer of the Year, while teammate Carson Tyler was selected as Diver of the Year. The Hoosiers’ Ray Looze and Drew Johansen were also named Men’s Swim and Diving Coaches of the Year.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is the third consecutive Swimmer of the Year accolade for Burns, while Tyler earns his first honor. Looze collects his eighth Big Ten Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year accolade, with Johansen earning Diving Coach of the Year recognition for the fifth time.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burns defended his 100-yard backstroke National Championship, placing first in a time of 43.86. Burns finished on the podium in the 200-yard backstroke (seventh) and the 200-yard butterfly (eighth).&nbsp;&nbsp;Tyler repeated as the NCAA platform diving champion with a score of 515.75, Indiana’s best-ever score at an NCAA Championship. Tyler was also the three-meter National Champion and finished third on the one-meter, earning the CSCAA Diver of the Year award on April 1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Looze led the Hoosiers to a fourth-place finish at last week’s 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the program’s fifth top five finish in the last six years. The Hoosiers collected three national championships among their eight medals, with 14 Hoosiers combining for 43 All-America honors, Indiana’s most since 19 athletes from the 1974 team who earned 50 honors as part of a second-place team finish.&nbsp;&nbsp;Johansen led the Hoosiers to a program record six diving medals of the nine available at the NCAA Championships, including two gold, two silver and two bronze. Indiana’s diving trio combined 121 points on the boards, eclipsing 100 points in back-to-back NCAA Championships.&nbsp;&nbsp;Looze, Johansen and the Hoosiers also claimed their 30th Big Ten championship in February, winning eight swimming events and two diving events to capture the program’s third straight Big Ten championship.
