Ohio State Secures Share of 2024 Big Ten Men's Soccer Title
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Ohio State men’ soccer team clinched a share of the 2024 Big Ten championship today, as the No. 1 Buckeyes scored a 2-1 win at No. 10 Maryland. Ohio State closed season with a 7-1-2 mark in conference play and a 12-1-3 record overall.
The Buckeyes win secures the program’s fifth Big Ten championship and first since 2015. Ohio State shares the 2024 title with Indiana, as both closed their conference schedules with 23 points.
The Buckeyes opened the scoring in the 14th minute, as Thomas Gilej converted after a set piece. Ohio State doubled its lead in the 34th minute when Ashton Bilow redirected a pass from Michael Adedokun.
Maryland cut its deficit in the early minutes of the second half, as Luca Constabile’s marker put the Terps on the board just over five minutes after the halftime break.
The 2024 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament will begin on Thursday, Nov. 7. The tournament’s three opening round matches and semifinals, slated for Sunday, Nov. 10, will be played at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill. The championship match will take place on Sunday, Nov. 17 on the home field of the highest remaining seed.
The top seven teams in the league’s final standings will qualify for the tournament, with the top seed earning a bye into the semifinal round. The final seeds for the tournament will be announced on Sunday afternoon, following the conclusion of all regular season games.
