Michigan State and Penn State Score Weekly Men’s Soccer Awards

Spartans’ Stout, Kelly, and Munson join Nittany Lions’ Henderson with Big Ten weekly accolades

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced the Big Ten Men’s Soccer awards for the week of Sept. 24-30.

Offensive Player of the Week 

Jonathan Stout, Michigan State
Jr. – M – Wyoming, Mich. – Potter’s House – Major: Statistics

  • Scored a second minute game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at UCLA
  • Garners his first Offensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Michigan State Offensive Player of the Week: Farai Mutatu (Sept. 21, 2021)


Defensive Player of the Week  
Matthew Henderson, Penn State

Jr. – D – Larkhall, Scotland – Larkhall Academy – Major: Kinesiology

  • Paired a goal and an assist in the Nittany Lions’ 2-1 comeback win over St. John’s
  • Scored a goal on a 75th minute corner kick service before assisting on the game-winner in the 81st minute
  • Earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Penn State Defensive Player of the Week: Kris Shakes (Sept. 26, 2023)

Goalkeeper of the Week  
Zac Kelly, Michigan State
R-Jr. – Holt, Mich. – Holt – Major: Crop and Soil Sciences

  • Posted four saves in the Spartans’ 1-0 win at UCLA
  • Faced 16 shots to secure his third clean sheet of the season
  • Earns his first Goalkeeper of the Week award

Freshman of the Week  
Brandon Munson, Michigan State
Fr. – D – Spring Hill, Fla. – Mill Valley – Major: Criminal Justice

  • Helped anchor the Spartans’ defensive effort in their 1-0 win at UCLA
  • UCLA outshot the Spartans 16-5 but only four shots found the target
  • Earns his first Freshman of the Week award
