2023 Big Ten Men's Soccer Schedule Slated to Begin on Thursday

ROSEMONT, Ill. – All nine Big Ten men’s soccer teams will be in action on Thursday, as the 2023 season gets underway.

A pair of Big Ten programs are included in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 poll, as Indiana checks in at No. 2, while Maryland will open the season ranked No. 14. Rutgers and Ohio State are also receiving votes in the season’s inaugural poll.

Fresh off its NCAA-record 22nd NCAA championship game appearance, Indiana will travel to South Bend to face Notre Dame for a 7 p.m. showdown, while reigning Big Ten champion Maryland will play host to Missouri State in the league’s latest start, slated for 8:30 p.m.

2022 Big Ten Tournament champion Rutgers will also face an early road test, as the Scarlet Knights will visit Delaware at 7 p.m. At the same time, Ohio State will play host to Cal State Northridge.

Northwestern will be the first Big Ten team to take the pitch in 2023, as the Wildcats will host St. Thomas at 5 p.m. Penn State will join Indiana and Rutgers in opening the season on the road, as the Nittany Lions will look to spring an upset at No. 5 Pitt.

Michigan will also kick off at 7 p.m., welcoming Loyola Marymount to Ann Arbor in nonconference action. Thirty minutes later, Michigan State will open its campaign with a visit from Loyola Chicago, with Wisconsin scheduled to host Purdue-Fort Wayne at 8 p.m.

Many Big Ten men’s soccer matches this weekend, and all season long, will be televised live on B1G+ (formerly BTN Plus and Big Ten Network+), with the current broadcast schedule available online at btnplus.com.

The 14 conference schools will battle during the next 10 weeks to claim the 2023 Big Ten Championship and position themselves for a berth in the Big Ten Tournament. The top eight teams will advance to the conference tournament, which begins Nov. 3 with quarterfinal games. The Big Ten Tournament culminates Nov. 8 and 12 with the semifinals and championship match. All games will be played on the home pitch of the higher seed.
