UCLA and Indiana Score Weekly Men’s Soccer Awards

Bruins’ Contell and Nelson join Hoosiers’ Miller and Heuer with Big Ten weekly accolades

ROSEMONT, Ill.  – The Big Ten Conference has announced the Big Ten Men’s Soccer awards for the week of October 8-14.

Offensive Player of the Week 
Jose Contell, UCLA
Sr. – F – Valencia, Spain – Catholic University of Valencia – Major: International Development Studies

  • Scored the game-winning goal in the Bruins’ 2-1 win over then-No. 2 Ohio State
  • Recorded the second of UCLA’s two goals in a 90-second span
  • Garners his first Offensive Player of the Week award

  
Defensive Player of the Week  
Jansen Miller, Indiana
Sr. – D – Baldwin, Mo. – Parkway West – Major: Liberal Studies

  • Tallied a pair of assists as Indiana went 2-0 on the week
  • Helped hold Kentucky scoreless in the second half as Indiana rallied for a 3-2 win
  • Earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Defensive Player of the Week: Joey Maher (Oct. 17, 2023)

Goalkeeper of the Week  
Wyatt Nelson, UCLA
So. – Seattle, Wash. – Roosevelt – Major: Business Economics

  • Recorded three saves in UCLA’s 2-1 upset of then-No. 2 Ohio State
  • Earns his first Goalkeeper of the Week award
  • Last UCLA Goaltender of the Week Award: Sam Joseph (Sept. 3, 2024)

Freshman of the Week  
Charlie Heuer, Indiana
Fr. – M – Elmurst, Ill. – York Community – Major: Pre-Business

  • Scored both goals in less than 30 minutes of action in Indiana’s 2-0 win over Penn State
  • Scored his first collegiate goal in the 68th minute and added an insurance goal in the 76th
  • Earns his first Freshman of the Week award
