Michigan Sweeps Weekly Tennis Awards
Steiglehner and Bhandari claim honors for the Wolverines
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s tennis weekly awards for matches played October 3-5.
Player of the Week
Nicholas Steiglehner, Michigan
Sr. — New York, N.Y. — Dwight Friends Seminary
- Compiled an 8-0 overall record at the Hope College Racquet Sports Management Dominant Duo Invitational in Holland, Mich.
- Partnered with Bjorn Swenson to capture the doubles championship with a 4-0 record
- Finished with a 4-0 mark in singles, highlighted by wins against Illinois, Northwestern and Notre Dame
- Won the doubles final by a 6-1 score and defeated the 66th-ranked team from Notre Dame in the second round
- The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar earns his first career Big Ten weekly award
Freshman of the Week
Arnav Bhandari, Michigan
Fr. — San Ramon, Calif. — California Connections Academy
- Making his collegiate debut, fashioned a 5-3 overall record at the Hope RSM Dominant Duo Invitational
- Finished 3-1 in singles, winning three-straight matches to reach the final
- Registered a 2-2 mark with doubles partner Mert Oral, which included a 6-0 decision against Northwestern
- Is the first Wolverine to receive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor
- Michigan becomes the first school to sweep the men’s tennis weekly awards
