Michigan State and Ohio State to Play for Big Ten Tournament Championship

Big Ten co-champions to battle for conference tournament title

OJAI, Calif. – No. 25-ranked Michigan State and No. 3-ranked Ohio State won semifinals matches Friday at the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament to advance to Saturday’s championship match, scheduled for 5 p.m. PT at the 124th Ojai in Libbey Park. The winning team receives the conference’s automatic berth into next week’s NCAA Tournament.

No. 1 seed Michigan State (17-8) is looking for its first tournament championship since 1967 and its third overall. No. 2 seed Ohio State (29-3) has captured 17 tournament championships all-time, including 14 of the last 19 since 2006. The Buckeyes are making their 22nd consecutive appearance in the final.

Michigan State defeated Ohio State, 4-3, on March 15 in a result that – 1.) ended the Buckeyes’ 49-match conference win streak, 2.) marked OSU’s first conference home loss dating to 2003 and 3.) produced MSU’s first win in the series since 1999.

Michigan State and Ohio State shared the Big Ten regular season crown with 12-1 conference records. MSU earned the tournament’s No. 1 seed based on a head-to-head tiebreaker.
