Ohio State Falls in NCAA Championship Match to Virginia
NCAA MEN'S TENNIS CENTRAL
ORLANDO, Fla. – The third-ranked Ohio State men’s tennis team came up short in its bid for a national title losing 4-0 to fifth-ranked Virginia Sunday at the NCAA Division I Championship held at the USTA National Campus. It is the second-straight championship for the Cavaliers.
Playing their third match in as many days in 90-degree heat, the Buckeyes couldn’t find their rhythm against a team they beat twice in February. OSU lost the doubles point and dropped matches in the top three singles flights. The loss snapped the Buckeyes’ 19-match winning streak dating to March 15.
Jack Anthrop (No. 6 singles) and the doubles team of Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy (No. 3 doubles) were named to the all-tournament team. Ohio State, which finishes with a 34-3 record, was making its third NCAA championship appearance, having reached the finals in 2009 and 2018.
With the NCAA team competition completed, attention turns to the NCAA singles and doubles championships, which begin tomorrow and run through Saturday. The Big Ten has 11 singles players and four doubles teams entered in the championships.
