Northwestern and Washington Earn Weekly Tennis Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s tennis weekly awards for matches played Feb. 26-March 2.

Player of the Week
Dzianis Zharyn, Washington
Sr. – Gomel, Belarus — Republic State School of Olympic Reserve

• Won all four matches (2-0 singles, 2-0 doubles) to help No. 49 Washington to a fourth-place finish out of eight teams at the Diablos College Invitational
• Playing No. 2 singles, defeated 63rd-ranked Zoran Ludoski of Arizona, 6-2, 6-1 as Washington pushed No. 9 Arizona to the limit in a 4-3 loss
• Partnered with Cesar Bouchelaghem to win a pair of doubles matches at center court against Utah State and Boise State
• Ranked 98th in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
• Becomes the first Husky to be named Big Ten Player of the Week

Freshman of the Week
Vincent Yang, Northwestern
Fr. – Kirkland, Wash. — Lakeside School

• Won a pair of matches as Northwestern defeated Northern Kentucky, 6-1, and Marquette, 7-0, at the Combe Tennis Center
• Recorded a bagel and dropped just three games total in a 6-0, 6-3 win over Northern Kentucky’s Arnau Puig Juanpere at No. 6 singles
• Joined forces with Max Bengtsson to record a 6-2 win over Marquette’s Remi St. Laurent and TJ Ryerson at No. 3 doubles
• Earns first-ever Freshman of the Week honor for Northwestern
• Last Northwestern Award recipient: Presley Thieneman (Player) on Feb. 14, 2024
