Eight Big Ten Teams Qualify for NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship

NCAA postseason play begins this week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has qualified eight teams for the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship. UCLA, ranked 27th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, received the conference’s automatic berth while No. 6 Ohio State, No. 21 Michigan State, No. 27 USC, No. 28 Michigan, No. 33 Illinois, No. 39 Washington and No. 40 Nebraska earned at-large berths. It is the largest representation ever for the Big Ten at the event.

The NCAA field includes 64 teams playing at 16 different sites for the first and second rounds, May 2-5. Sixteen teams advance to the Super Regionals on May 9-11 with eight teams moving on to the National Championship, May 16-18, at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

First Round matches:

Friday, May 2
Starkville, Miss. | A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre
North Alabama (20-3) vs. Michigan State (16-9) — 11 a.m. ET
Michigan State is making its second-straight NCAA appearance and its third trip overall to the NCAAs.

Berkeley, Calif. | Hellman Tennis Center
UCLA (15-8) vs. UC Santa Barbara (18-3) — 1 p.m. ET
The Bruins are making their 47th appearance all-time in the NCAAs, earning a berth for the third-straight year. UCLA has won 16 national championships.

Fort Worth, Texas | Friedman Tennis Center
Illinois (15-11) vs. Oklahoma (16-10) — 4 p.m. ET
The Fighting Illini are making their 28th NCAA tournament, appearing for the third year in a row. Illinois won the national title in 2003.

Tucson, Ariz. | Robson Tennis Center
Washington (17-8) vs. Harvard (19-6) — TBA 
The Huskies are making their first trip to the NCAAs since 2022 and will appear in their 22nd tournament all-time.

Saturday, May 3
Austin, Texas | Texas Tennis Center
Michigan (15-12) vs. Cornell (15-7) — 11 a.m. ET
The Wolverines have qualified for the NCAAs for the ninth-straight season and the 34th time overall.

College Station, Texas | Mitchell Tennis Center
Nebraska (15-9) vs. Baylor (22-10) — 11 a.m. ET
The Cornhuskers are making their third tournament appearance and their first in 14 years.

Columbus, Ohio | Auer Tennis Complex
Buffalo (18-5) vs. Ohio State (26-2) — 1 p.m. ET
The No. 5 seed overall, Ohio State is making its 25th NCAA appearance having reached the NCAA Semifinals last season.

San Diego, Calif. | Hogan Tennis Center
Arizona State (12-11) vs. USC (14-10) — 1 p.m. ET
USC will be making its 45th trip all-time to the NCAAs, having captured 21 national championships.
