Michigan, Michigan State Earn Weekly Tennis Honor

Wolverines’ Young, Spartans’ Baris earn NCAA Championships berths

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan senior Gavin Young and Michigan State junior Ozan Baris have been named Big Ten Conference Men’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week for the period covering Oct. 9-15.

Co-Player of the Week
Gavin Young, Michigan
Sr. – Apple Valley, Minn. – Eastview

  • Posted a 5-0 record with teammate Benjamin Kittay to secure the doubles title at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, conducted Oct. 10-14 in East Lansing, Mich.
  • Earned a berth to the NCAA Doubles Championship next month in Waco, Texas
  • Defeated Zachary Viiala and Tyler Bowers of Illinois in the championship match, 7-5, 2-6 (15-13)
  • Recorded a 7-6 (11-9), 4-6 (10-4) victory over Michigan State’s 45th-ranked team of Max Sheldon and Matthew Forbes in the semifinals
  • Reached the quarterfinals round of singles, finishing the ITA Regional with a combined singles/doubles record of 8-1
  • Rated seventh in singles and 17th in doubles in the ITA Rankings
  • The All-Big Ten First Team selection receives his second career Big Ten weekly award
  • Last Michigan Big Ten of the Week honoree: Jacob Bickersteth (April 10, 2024)
