Oregon and UCLA Secure Weekly Tennis Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s tennis weekly awards for matches played April 18-20.

Player of the Week
Vlad Breazu, Oregon
Jr. – Bucharest, Romania

• Helped No. 54 Oregon to a pair of wins as the Ducks jumped two spots in the standings to qualify for the Big Ten Tournament
• Clinched match point in both matches, finishing with a 3-1 overall record on the week
• Playing No. 2 singles, defeated No. 76 William Mroz in straight sets to seal Oregon’s 4-3 upset win over No. 31 Illinois on Friday
• Rallied from a set down to defeat Northwestern’s Felix Nordby, 1-6, 6-0, 7-5 and teamed with Clement Lemire to win at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, in the regular season finale Sunday
• The three-year starter earns his first career Big Ten weekly award
• Oregon’s last Big Ten Player of the Week: Paris Pouatcha (October 9, 2024)

Freshman of the Week
Kaylan Bigun, UCLA
Fr. – Los Angeles, Calif.

• Went 2-0 in singles as No. 21 UCLA recorded a road sweep of No. 58 Wisconsin and No. 41 Nebraska to finish in second place in its inaugural Big Ten campaign
• Captured match point in both matches for the Bruins, playing at No. 3 singles
• Recorded a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Wisconsin’s Edouard Aubert and followed with a 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 win against Nebraska’s Nikolay Sysoev
• Finished with a 6-2 singles record in conference play
• Earns his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award, having previously been recognized on March 12, 2025
• Gives UCLA its fifth Freshman Award of the season
