Illinois Earns Big Ten Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Award

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior Karlis Ozolins of Illinois has been named Men’s Tennis Player of the Week by the Big Ten Conference for matches played Jan. 5-7.

Karlis Ozolins, Illinois
Jr. – Salaspils, Latvia – Rigas Komercskola
- Went a combined 4-1 at the Gamecock Kickoff which featured No. 5 South Carolina, No. 18 Georgia and VCU
- Won both singles matches in straight sets, upsetting 41st-ranked Thomas Paulsell of Georgia in opening day action.
- Teamed with William Moroz in dropping just one game in a pair of double wins, improving the duo’s career record to 9-3 (.750 winning percentage)
- The 2023 All-Big Ten First Team selection is ranked 55th in singles by the ITA
- Has won the Big Ten weekly award three straight times dating to last season
