Ohio State Captures the Big Ten Men's Tennis Championship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In a battle of top-10 ranked programs, third-ranked Ohio State turned away seventh-ranked Michigan, 4-0, in the championship match of the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament. Sunday’s final was held indoors at the IU Tennis Center. It is the 10th tournament title since 2009 for the Buckeyes, who earn the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State (29-2) clinched match point at No. 2 singles when Justin Boulais recorded a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win over Andrew Fenty. At that time, three singles matches were still in progress, including a showdown at No. 1 singles between the last two Big Ten Athlete of the Year Award winners – Michigan’s Ondrej Styler (2023) and Ohio State’s Cannon Kingsley (2022).
Ohio State captured the doubles point, which came down to a tiebreaker at the No. 2 flight. OSU’s James Trotter and Andrew Lutschaunig staved off a doubles match point to win 9-7 in the breaker. Trotter was named the tournament’s most valuable player and joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Justin Boulais. Michigan (24-4) placed Styler and Patrick Maloney on the team. Tournament semifinalists Illinois (Kenta Miyoshi) and Northwestern (Gleb Blekher) were also represented.
The Big Ten will find out how many of its teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
