Michigan State, Ohio State Claim Weekly Tennis Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s tennis weekly awards for matches played March 12-16.

Player of the Week
Max Sheldon, Michigan State
Sr. – Arlington Heights, Ill.

• Compiled an .833 win percentage on the week, going 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles
• Helped No. 36 Michigan State to a 4-3 upset of No. 10 Arizona on March 12 with a pair of victories.
• Dropped just three games at No. 3 singles and won, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles against 73rd-ranked Inaki Cabera-Bello and Casper Christensen of Arizona
• Factored in MSU’s 4-0 road win against No. 49 Nebraska, securing the No. 3 singles point in straight sets
• Earns his second Big Ten Player of the Week award of the season
• Last Spartan named Big Ten Player of the Week: Aristotelis Thanos on Jan. 22, 2025

Freshman of the Week
Nikita Filin, Ohio State
Fr. – Glenview, Ill.

• Finished with a 3-0 overall record as No. 4 Ohio State swept its first west coach trip with wins over No. 54 Oregon and No. 58 Washington
• Teamed with Brandon Carpico to earn the doubles point in both matches with wins at the No. 3 flight
• Playing his first singles match in over a month, prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to give OSU an early lead it did not relinquish against the Huskies
• The 2024 USTA Boys 18 Doubles champion is now 17-3 in doubles on the season
• Last Buckeye to capture a Big Ten weekly award: Aidan Kim (Player) on Feb. 12, 2025
• Becomes first Ohio State player chosen Big Ten Freshman of the Week
