Ohio State and UCLA Selected for Weekly Tennis Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s tennis weekly awards for matches played March 28-April 1.

Player of the Week
Emon van Loben Sels, UCLA
So. – Sacramento, Calif. — Visions in Education

• Posted a 5-0 overall record (2-0 singles, 3-0 doubles) during the week
• Defeated No. 88 Vlad Breazu of Oregon on court two in straight sets (6-2, 6-4), clinching match point as No. 33 UCLA downed No. 58 Oregon, 4-0, on March 29
• Posted a win at No. 3 singles against USC and teamed with Gianluca Ballotta to win three doubles matches (including a pair of doubles points), running the duo’s win streak to six matches
• The 2024 NCAA Singles participant earns his first Big Ten award
• Last Bruin named Big Ten Player of the Week: Spencer Johnson (Oct. 23, 2024)

Freshman of the Week
Brandon Carpico, Ohio State
Fr. – Gahanna, Ohio — Gahanna Lincoln HS

• Helped No. 3 Ohio State to a pair of come-from-behind road wins against No. 20 Michigan and No. 29 Michigan State
• Produced a combined 4-0 record, securing wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles along with a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles
• Leads the Buckeyes with a 30-3 doubles mark on the season.
• The two-time Boys 18 national doubles champion earns his first Big Ten honor
• Last Buckeye tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week: Nikita Filin (March 19, 2025)
