Ohio State Wins Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 1 seed Ohio State defeated second seed Michigan, 4-1, in the championship match of the 2024 Big Ten Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament on a foggy Sunday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. The top-ranked Buckeyes won their second-straight Big Ten Tournament and 17th overall.

Ohio State (30-1) completes the Big Ten “Double”, adding the conference tournament title to its regular season championship. OSU will receive the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

OSU clinched championship point at No. 3 singles as JJ Tracy turned away Bjorn Swenson in a second-set tiebreaker in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) result. Tracy was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.

Ohio State began the match by capturing the doubles point, then went up 3-0 behind singles wins from Jack Anthrop and Cannon Kingsley. Michigan (16-12) earned its lone point at No. 1 singles as 19th-ranked Gavin Young defeated 33rd-ranked Justin Boulais 6-1, 6-4.

Two other single matches were in progress when Tracy ended the match with an overhead return at the net.

The Big Ten will find out how many of its teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Monday at 6 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. Singles and doubles competitors will be revealed on Tuesday.
