Michigan State Sweeps Weekly Men’s Cross Country Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Cross Country weekly award winners for competitions that occurred between Sept. 10-16.  

Athlete of the Week  
Jasper Cane, Michigan State 
Sophomore – Kalamazoo, Mich. – Kalamazoo Central High School – Major: Communications 

• Won the Spartan Invitational with an 8K time of 24:34.5 
• Helped Michigan State win the team title, as the first-five finishers were all Spartans 
• Last Michigan State Athlete of the Week Award: Riley Hough (Oct. 22, 2026) 

 
Freshman of the Week 
Beckett Crooks, Michigan State 
Freshman – Ann Arbor, Mich. – Ann Arbor Pioneer High School – Major: Supply Chain Management

• Finished seventh overall at the Spartan Invitational with an 8K time of 24:41.4 
• Crooks was the fastest freshman in the event 
• His efforts helped the Spartans win the team title 
• Last Michigan State Freshman of the Week Award: Thomas Westphal (Oct. 22, 2026)
