Michigan State, Wisconsin Win 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championships
ROSEMONT, ILL. – Michigan State claimed its third women’s title in the last four years, while Wisconsin earned it’s fifth straight men’s title at the 2022 Big Ten Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28 at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Michigan State Spartans women’s program earned its third title under former Spartan standout and current Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, Lisa Breznau. The Spartans registered 78 points, beating runner-up Michigan by eight points. MSU was led by Katie Osika who placed second overall and covered the 6k course at 20:04.6.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Wisconsin men’s cross country program takes home the Big Ten Championship. The Badgers totaled 25 points, beating out runner-up Michigan by a total of 32 points and placed six runners in the top 10. Head coach Mick Byrne also tied another former Wisconsin coach, Martin Smith, for the conference record with 12 championships to their names.
Wisconsin’s Bob Liking earned the men’s individual title, finishing the 8k in 23:48.9, beating his teammate Jackson Sharp by .06 seconds. Liking earned his second consecutive Big Ten individual cross country championship.
The All-Big Ten first and second teams are listed below- the top seven finishers at the Big Ten Championships earn first-team all-conference honors, while the runners ending up in places 8-14 are awarded second-team All-Big ten accolades.
