Minnesota, Oregon and Penn State Net Weekly Women’s Indoor Track and Field Accolades
Gophers’ Nabwe, Ducks’ Cherotich, and Nittany Lions’ Buchanan earn weekly honors
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 3-10, 2025.
Track Athlete of the Week
Tayissa Buchanan, Penn State
Sophomore – Mid-distance – Albion Park, NSW, Australia – Major: Kinesiology
- Won the women’s 800-meter at Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston
- Her time of 2:02.67 is the fastest time in the Big Ten and NCAA this season
- The sophomore’s effort is also second-best by a Penn State Runner ever
- Last Penn State Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award: Hayley Kitching (Feb. 5, 2025)
Field Athlete of the Week
Anthonett Nabwe, Minnesota
RS-Junior– Throws – Jamestown, N.D. – Major: Kinesiology
- Opened the indoor season with wins in the weight throw and shot put at the M City Classic
- Nabwe leads the NCAA in the weight throw 23.74m (77-10 ¾) and is third in the shot put 16.40m (53-9 ¾), and both are No. 1 among the Big Ten
- The redshirt junior has won six-straight weight throw competitions at home, which dates back to February of 2024
- Also captured the shot put win with her second-best throw of the indoor season with a mark of 17.16m (56-3 ¾)
- Last Minnesota Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award: Anthonett Nabwe (Feb. 26, 2025)
Freshman of the Week
Diana Cherotich, Oregon
Freshman – Distance – Bungoma County, Kenya – Major: Freshman
- Ran a Big Ten-leading and Oregon school-record time of 15:16.72 in the 5,000m at the BU Colyear-Danville Opener in Boston
- Cherotich took nearly nine seconds off the previous school mark
- Cherotich’s time currently ranks 12th in the NCAA
- This marks Oregon’s first Indoor Freshman of the Week award
