Iowa and Nebraska Win Weekly Women’s Indoor Track and Field Awards

Hawkeyes’ Nave and Zahn and Huskers’ Johansson claim weekly laurels

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 10-17, 2025.  

Track Athlete of the Week  
Dymonde Nave, Iowa 
Junior – Sprints/Hurdles – Sioux Falls, S.D. – Major: Educational Studies and Human Resources 

  • Won the women’s 800-meter at Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston 
  • Her time of 2:02.67 is the fastest time in the Big Ten and NCAA this season 
  • The sophomore’s effort is also second best by a Penn State Runner ever  
  • Last Iowa Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award: Paige Magee (Jan. 24, 2024) 

Field Athlete of the Week 
Axelina Johansson, Nebraska 
Senior – Throws – Hok, Sweden – Major: Graphic Design 

  • Broke the NCAA record, school record and Swedish record with her 19.72m (64-8 ½) shot put mark at the Husker Holiday Open 
  • Johansson was also recognized as NCAA D1 National Athlete of the Week for her efforts 
  • Last Nebraska Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award: Jenna Rogers (Dec. 18, 2024) 
     

Freshman of the Week 
Izzy Zahn, Iowa 
Freshman – Sprints – Coldwater, Ohio – Major: Radiation Science 

  • Debuted in the Jimmy Grant Invite with a 38.14 win in the 300m and ran the second leg of Iowa’s 4x400m relay team that placed second 
  • Her time of 38.14 in the 300m was a meet record and also ranks top among Big Ten freshman 
  • Her split of 55.03 in the 4x400 relay was also the fastest among Iowa 
  • Last Iowa Indoor Freshman of the Week award: Damaris Mutunga (Feb 19, 2025) 

2025-26 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week 

Dec. 10 
Track: Tayissa Buchanan, PSU 
Field: Anthonett Nabwe, MINN 
Freshman:  Diana Cherotich, ORE 

Dec. 17 
Track: Dymonde Nave, IOWA 
Field: Axelina Johansson, NEB 
Freshman:  Izzy Zahn, IOWA
