Oregon Takes Home Big Ten Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship

Indianapolis, IND. – The Oregon Ducks won the Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. This is head coach Jerry Schumacher’s first women's indoor championship with the Ducks.  

Illinois was this year’s runner-up with 82 points, while USC finished third with 76 points. Iowa (51 points) and Washington (50 points) rounded out the top five.  

The Ducks took home four individual Big Ten titles, with three being distance events.  Wilma Nielsen won the Mile (4:38.77), Silan Ayyildiz secured the 5,000m (15:56.81), while Oregon’s DMR relay team (Nielsen, Oliviera, McDonnell, Barnett) won with a time of 10:56.97. Aaliyah McCormick also took home the 60-meter hurdles (7.963).   

The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Wednesday (March 5). The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year will be announced following the NCAA Indoor Championships.
