Big Ten Well-Represented in NCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship

Oregon wins first Women’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship for Big Ten

Rosemont, ILL. – Four Big Ten schools achieved a top-ten finish in the Women’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, which is the most Big Ten schools to ever finish in the top ten. 

The Big Ten champion Oregon Ducks won the national title by earning 55 points, which is the first Women’s Indoor Track & Field NCAA championship by a Big Ten school while in the conference. USC placed third (35), Washington tied-fourth (31), and Illinois eighth (25.5).  

The Big Ten also had five individual champions from five different schools. Oregon’s Wilma Nielsen took home the mile, Washington’s Amanda Moll claimed pole vault, Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson earned shot put, USC’s Dajaz DeFrand won the 60 meter sprint, and Wisconsin’s Taylor Kesner was victorious in weight throw.  

The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, and Freshman of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, March 19.
