Big Ten Wrestling Set to Compete at NCAA Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Wrestlers from all 14 Big Ten schools will head to BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which begin Thursday, March 16 and conclude Saturday, March 18. The Big Ten is sending 98 wrestlers, including 58 top-15 seeded grapplers and five No. 1 seeds, across the 10 weight classes.
Eighty-seven Big Ten wrestlers earned spots in the NCAA Championships field by virtue of their Big Ten Championships finish, while 11 others received at-large bids. The conference is sending at least nine wrestlers in all 10 weight classes, including nine in the 125-, 133-, 174- and 184-pound weight classes, 10 in the 141-, 149-, 165- and 197-pound weight classes, and 11 in the 157- and 285-pound weight classes.
The Big Ten boasts a top-seeded wrestler in five weight classes this year – Iowa’s Spencer Lee (125) and Real Woods (141), Michigan’s Mason Parris (285) and Penn State’s Roman Bravo-Young (133) and Carter Starocci (174).
Six Big Ten schools have claimed NCAA titles, led by Iowa with 24. Penn State won its ninth national championship in 2022, the program’s eighth title in the last 10 years. Minnesota follows with three national titles, while Indiana, Michigan State and Ohio State own one title each. A Big Ten school has taken home the national championship in each of the last 15 years.
