Big Ten Announces Women's Swimming and Diving Post Season Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2023 Big Ten Women’s Swimming & Diving postseason individual award recipients on Tuesday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches.
 
Wisconsin’s Phoebe Bacon was named Women’s Swimmer of the Year, while Minnesota’s Joy Zhu was selected as the Diver of the Year. Ohio State’s Bill Dorenkott was tabbed as the Women’s Swim Coach of the Year and Minnesota’s Wenbo Chen was named Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.
 
Bacon claimed three All-America honors at the 2023 NCAA Championships, including a second-place finishes in the 200 backstroke. Zhu also earned two All-American titles after placing eighth on the 1-meter and seventh in the 1-meter competition, making it the sixth straight season that a Golden Gopher earned All-America honors on both springboards at the same Championships.
 
Dorenkott guided the Buckeyes to the 2023 Big Ten Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship and a top-10 finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships. Under Chen’s leadership, Minnesota’s divers earned All-America honors four times at the 2023 NCAA Championships, including a third-place finish on platform.
