Wisconsin and Ohio State Earn Women’s Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

Badgers’ Tierney and Wanezek and Buckeyes’ Pineda Vazquez claim weekly accolades

Swimmer of the Week  
Hailey Tierney, Wisconsin 

So. – Pewaukee, Wis. – Harland Arrowhead – Major: Undecided 

  • Helped lead the No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers to a clean sweep over No. 23 Minnesota at a dual meet on Friday  

  • Tierney clinched four first place finishes, highlighted by a record breaking 200 medley relay win, securing an NCAA A cut for the team and a new school record. Tierney was the anchor leg in that relay 

  • Earned three NCAA B cuts and first place finishes in the 50 free, 100 free and 400 free relay  

  • Last Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week: Phoebe Bacon (Oct. 23, 2024) 

Diver of the Week 

Paola Pineda Vazquez, Ohio State 

Gr. - Veracruz, Mexico – Major: Sports Coaching  

  • Won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Virginia Tech  

  • Scored a 337.95 on the 1-meter and a 356.70 on the 3-meter, both are NCAA Zone qualifying scores  

  • Earns her second consecutive Diver of the Week accolade 

  • Last Ohio State Diver of the Week: Paola Pineda Vazquez (Oct. 30, 2024) 

 
Freshman of the Week  
Maggie Wanezek, Wisconsin 

Elm Grove, Wis. – Brookfield East– Major: Psychology 

  • Backstroke leg in the 200 medley relay that broke the school record and earned an NCAA A cut with a time of 1:35.60 

  • Finished in first place in the 100 backstroke, earning an NCAA B cut and .3 seconds off of an A cut with a time of 50.96 

  • First place in the 200 backstroke, earning an NCAA B cut with a time of 1:51.75 

  • Third leg in the 400-freestyle relay that earned an NCAA B cut with a time of 3:14.75 

  • Last Wisconsin Freshman of the Week: Hailey Tierney (Nov. 8, 2023)
