Big Ten Announces Women’s Swimming and Diving Postseason Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced its 2024 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving postseason award recipients on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches.  

Wisconsin’s Phoebe Bacon was named Swimmer of the Year, while Minnesota’s Vivi Del Angel was named Diver of the Year. Indiana’s Ray Looze was named Swim Coach of the year and Minnesota’s Wenbo Chen was named Diving Coach of the Year.  

Bacon won Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive year, after a season culminating with a National Championship for Bacon in the 200-yard backstroke. Bacon was also named an All-American in the 200 IM and the 100-yard backstroke at this year’s NCAA Championships.  

Del Angel became the first-ever diver for Minnesota to win a National Title on platform, winning the crown with a 327.90.  

Looze earns his sixth Swim Coach of the Year honor after guiding Indiana to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships and the team’s first Big Ten Championship since 2019.  

Chen was named Diving Coach of the Year for the second-straight year and 10th time in his career. Chen helped the Gophers to a 20th place finish at this year's NCAA Championships.
