Three Goals in Five Minutes and a Last-Minute Score

The 2026 soccer season gets more unpredictable every day. On both the men’s and women’s sides, we’ve seen buzzer-beaters, upsets, and crazy goals across the board. And this weekend brought arguably the biggest stunner so far... 

Jablinskey powers Wolverines over top-ranked rival 

The only thing better than a rivalry win is a rivalry upset! Michigan spoiled No. 1 Michigan State’s undefeated season with a 3-1 shocker in East Lansing, earning the program’s first ever win over the top-ranked team in the country. 

The Spartans struck first after Emerson Sargeant dribbled from the halfway line all the way upfield and used the outside of her foot to shovel the ball into the back of the net. From there, it was all Wolverines. 

This is why you wait until the action stops to make a trip to the concession stand: the Maize and Blue scored three times in just 5:37 to put away the Spartans. Ella Jablinskey drilled a shot into the side netting from beyond the 18 to tie the score with just over 28 minutes remaining. Exactly three minutes later, she took a shot from the side of the six-yard box for the brace and a 2-1 lead. Then, Jablisnkey assisted her teammate as Maya Raghunandanan scored again for the Wolverines in the 68^th minute.  Read more .

Huskers, Huskies dogfight to draw 

Michigan wasn’t the only team that surprised a ranked opponent this weekend; Nebraska battled No. 11 Washington to a draw in Lincoln. The Huskies brought a 1-0 lead into halftime after Alex Buck directed a ricochet into the side netting. Husker Karli Williams opened scoring in the second half, when her free-kick shot hit both posts before crossing the goal line. Nebraska scored again less than five minutes later. A takeaway and long cross from Ella Guyott found Ava Makovicka in the box for a quick header goal.  

With under a minute left, it looked like the Huskers had a top-15 upset in hand. But you can’t count out the Dawgs! On a corner kick with time ticking away, Washington won a game of pinball in front of the goal, turning a deflection into the net to preserve its unbeaten record. Upcoming this week 

Coming off its milestone victory, Michigan returns home to host defending Big Ten Champion Washington. The No. 11 Huskies bring an undefeated 7-0-2 record to Ann Arbor, but if the Wolverines' stunner proved anything, it's that anything can happen in Big Ten play.
