Big Ten Conference Record 10 Schools Selected for 2024 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament

All 10 Big Ten Tournament qualifying teams selected for NCAA postseason

 

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference will have 10 schools participating in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, announced on Monday. All 10 teams who qualified for this year’s Big Ten Tournament will play in the first round of this year’s tournament, including Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, UCLA, USC, Washington and Wisconsin. The 10 NCAA Tournament selections set the Big Ten Conference record for the most postseason selections in a single season, surpassing last year’s record of nine.  

Nine of the 10 Big Ten programs earned top six seeds in their respective quadrants of the bracket and will host first-round matches later this week.  

For the first time in program history,
USC earned a No. 1 seed and will host Sacramento State on Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. ET.  Playing its first season as a member of the Big Ten, USC won the conference’s regular season title, going 10-0-1 in league play to secure the program’s first undefeated conference season and first outright conference title.

Big Ten Tournament Champion, UCLA was selected as a No. 2 seed and will welcome California Baptist on Friday, Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. ET.  

No. 3 seed Iowa is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and will host Missouri Valley Champion Missouri State on Friday at 7 p.m. ET. The No. 3 seed is the highest in Hawkeye program history, and for the first time in program history, Iowa will host the opening round in back-to-back seasons.   

Ohio State also earned a No. 3 seed and will host James Madison on Friday at 6 p.m. ET. This will be the Buckeyes' fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 18th overall.   

Fourth-seeded
Penn State welcomes CAA Champion Stony Brook on Saturday for a 6 p.m. ET start. It's the Nittany Lions’ 30th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the second-longest NCAA Tournament streak in the nation.  

Fifth-seeded
Michigan State earned a berth for the third season in a row and will host MAC Champion Western Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 16 in the first round.  

No. 5
Wisconsin will make its 25th NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh in the last eight seasons and will host America East Champion Maine on Friday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET.  

Sixth-seeded
Minnesota earned its first NCAA bid since 2018 and will host South Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. ET at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The Golden Gophers will make their 12th tournament appearance after finishing the 2024 regular season undefeated at home for the first time in Head Coach Erin Chastain’s tenure.  

Big Ten Tournament runner-up and sixth-seeded
Rutgers will continue its season for the 17th time in the past 19 years. The Scarlet Knights host Big East Champion UConn on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. ET.  

After advancing to the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament Semifinals, the
Washington Huskies heard their name called on Monday and will head to Logan, Utah, to face No. 8-seed Utah State on Friday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. ET. Friday’s opening-round match will be the Huskies first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2020.  

The 43rd annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played on Dec. 6 and 9 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The first national semifinal will be played and broadcast live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 6, followed by the second semifinal beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. EST. The national championship match will take place at 5 p.m. EST on Monday, Dec. 9, and will also be broadcast live on ESPNU.
