Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin Share 1st Weekly Women’s Soccer Honors of 2023

Offensive Player of the Week 

Megan Nemec, Minnesota

Gr. – F – Tinley Park, Ill. – Andrew – Major: Strategic Management Certificate

•    Scored three goals, as Minnesota opened the season with a pair of victories

•    Tallied the eventual game-winning goals in wins over Niagara and New Hampshire

•    Garners her first Offensive Player of the Week award

•    Last Minnesota Offensive Player of the Week: Sophia Boman (Sept. 13, 2022) 

Defensive Player of the Week? 

Cori Dyke, Penn State

Gr. – M – Littleton, Colo. – Valor Christian – Major: Kinesiology

•    Anchored a Nittany Lions’ defensive effort that held No. 2 North Carolina to a scoreless draw and just two shots on goal

•    Scored a goal on her only shot in No. 10 Penn State’s victory over West Chester

•    Earns her first Defensive Player of the Week award 

•    Last Penn State Defensive Player of the Week: Mieke Schiemann (Sept. 27, 2022)  

Co-Goalkeeper of the Week

Katherine Asman, Penn State

Gr. – GK – Roswell, Ga. – Roswell – Major: Master’s in Business Administration

•    Recorded a pair of saves in No. 10 Penn State’s scoreless draw against No. 2 North Carolina

•    Posted 40 minutes of wok in a combined shutout victory over West Chester

•    Earns her fifth Goalkeeper of the Week award 

•    Last Penn State Goalkeeper of the Week: Katherine Asman (Oct. 18, 2022)

Erin McKinney, Wisconsin

Gr. – GK – Belvidere, Ill. – Belvidere North – Major: Sports Leadership

•    Saw all 180 minutes of action, as the Badgers tallied a pair of clean sheets to open the season

•    Recorded five saves in a scoreless draw against Kansas

•    Earns her second Goalkeeper of the Week honor

•    Last Wisconsin Goalkeeper of the Week: Erin McKinney (Aug. 23, 2022) 

Freshman of the Week

Ella Ottey, Wisconsin

D – Toronto, Can. – Bill Crowthers Secondary School – Major: Undeclared

•    Scored her first career goal in the Badgers’ 1-0 win over UIC

•    Started her first two career games on a defensive unit that surrendered just 10 shots in a pair of shutouts

•    Earns her first Freshman of the Week honor

•    Last Wisconsin Freshman of the Week: Rylee Howard (Oct. 11, 2022)
