Ohio State, USC and Wisconsin Claim Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards

Buckeyes’ Chavez, Trojans’ Mahendran and Badgers’ Sholokhova and Urbanova share weekly honors

Co-Player of the Week 
Teah Chavez, Ohio State 
Jr. – Regina, Saskatchewan 

  • Chavez made a run to the semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships, with four wins over top 60 opponents, all in straight sets 
  • Chavez, the No. 7 seed and No. 11-ranked player, downed the No. 57, No. 37, No. 13 and No. 43 players before falling to No. 6 ranked and No. 4 seed Valerie Glozman of Stanford, the eventual champion 
  • As a quarterfinalist, she earned her first NCAA singles tournament berth. In doubles, Chavez and Luciana Perry won twice in qualifying to earn a main draw spot and then notched a first-round victory

Co-Player of the Week 
Maria Sholokhova, Wisconsin 
Sr. – Sochi, Russia 

  • Earned ITA All-American honors after winning the ITA All-American Championships in doubles alongside partner Lucie Urbanova 
  • The No. 39-ranked duo made history as the first-ever Wisconsin pairing to win the prestigious tournament and became the program’s first doubles All-Americans since 1998 
  • After a setback in the qualifying round, she and Urbanova stormed through the main draw with a perfect 5-0 run, defeating top 30 opponents from Auburn, NC State, Virginia, and Oklahoma en route to the championship 
  • Sholokhova also became the first player in program history, and the first nationally since UCLA’s Robin Anderson in 2013–14, to capture both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA All-American Championships

Co-Freshman of the Week 
Krisha Mahendran, USC 
Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.   

  • Captured both the singles and doubles titles at USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships 
  • Ranked No. 19 in the ITA newcomer rankings, won four-straight singles matches to reach the championship final and split the title with her teammate 
  • In doubles, competing with teammate Jana Hossam for the first time, the duo won four matches to claim the doubles title over Nevada's Silvia Maria Costache/Marlene Foerster, 6-4 
  • Went 8-0 over the weekend and finished with two titles during her first-ever collegiate tournament 
  • Last USC Freshman of the Week: Jana Hossam (March 12, 2025)  

 

Co-Freshman of the Week 
Lucie Urbanova, Wisconsin 
Konice, Czech Republic  

  • Earned All-American honors in her first collegiate tournament, teaming up with Maria Sholokhova to win the ITA All-American Championships doubles title 
  • Ranked No. 39 in the ITA preseason poll, the duo made history as the first Wisconsin pair, male or female, to win the event and the program’s first doubles All-Americans since 1998 
  • Urbanova and Sholokhova responded to a qualifying-round loss by reeling off five straight victories in the main draw, including wins over No. 3 Bennett/Bowers (Auburn), No. 10 Broadfoot/Osuigwe (NC State), and No. 26 Genis Salas/Xu (Virginia). They capped the run with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Oklahoma’s No. 27 Gilheany/Nahum in the final 
  • Last Wisconsin Freshman of the Week: Lucie Urbanova (Oct. 1, 2025)
