Ohio State and USC Claim Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards
Buckeyes’ Nishino and Trojans’ Hossam and Borruel earn weekly honors
Co-Player of the Week
Nao Nishino, Ohio State
So. – Tokyo, Japan
- Did not drop a set in a run to the ITA Midwest Regional Singles Championship, winning six straight matches
- As the No. 4 seed, she won in straight sets against DePaul, Illinois and Michigan State to open the tournament
- In the quarterfinals, Nishino beat an opponent from Notre Dame, 6-0, 7-6 (4) and then was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over No. 2 seed Emily Sartz-Lunde of Michigan
- In the final, Nishino posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Notre Dame’s Bianca Molnar
- Becomes the second straight Buckeye to claim the regional title and the second in program history. With the win, Nishino clinches her first NCAA singles berth

Jana Hossam, USC
So. – Alexandria, Egypt
- Competing at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, Hossam was a singles finalist, punching her ticket to NCAAs. Hossam also reached the doubles semifinal
- In singles, Hossam won five straight matches to reach the singles final
- In doubles, Hossam and her partner Krisha Mahendran won four straight matches and knocked off the No. 1 seeded pair of Fernandez/Crossley from UCLA

Freshman of the Week
Dani Borruel, USC
Buena Park, Calif.
- Teamed up with Lily Fairclough to win the ITA Southwest Region Doubles Title over the weekend, winning five straight matches and recording a three-set victory in the final
- The USC pair topped their own teammates (Mahendran/Hossam) in the semifinal to qualify
- Captured USC’s first ITA Regional Doubles Title since 2015 and the eighth all-time in school history
- In singles, Borruel reached the round of 32
