Michigan and Ohio State to Meet in Women’s Tennis Championship Match

Buckeyes and Wolverines to play in fifth consecutive Championship match

OJAI, Calif. - For the fifth consecutive season, Michigan and Ohio State will meet in the Championship match of the Big Ten women’s tennis tournament. The top-seeded Wolverines beat No. 8 Maryland (4-3) on Thursday and No. 4 UCLA (4-1) on Friday to advance to their 20th straight Tournament Championship match. The Buckeyes blanked seventh-seeded Illinois (4-0) on Thursday, beat No. 3-seed Washington (4-1) on Friday, and will play the Wolverines at 5 p.m. PT at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif.   

Michigan is a three-time defending tournament champion, and Ohio State has won three league titles, most recently in 2021. Saturday will mark the third time this season that the Wolverines and Buckeyes are meeting as top 10 foes, with Michigan winning the first two contests, 4-3 (March 15) and 4-1 (April 16). Michigan is currently ranked No. 3 nationally and Ohio State is ranked ninth.   

The winner of Saturday’s match will be the Big Ten’s automatic qualifier for this year’s NCAA Championship, with the full selection of teams revealed
on Monday, April 28, on NCAA.org.
