Michigan Clinches Big Ten Women's Tennis Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a battle of Top-10 teams, No. 6 Michigan defeated No. 7 Ohio State, 4-1, Sunday afternoon to capture the Big Ten Women's Tennis Championship outright at the Varsity Tennis Center. The match started outdoors before moving indoors due to rain. Michigan finished its conference season undefeated (11-0, 19-3 overall) while Ohio State dropped its first conference match (8-1, 16-6 overall).

Michigan claimed its 11th title in program history with the win over the defending champions. It is also the 10th Big Ten title won by Michigan Head Coach Ronni Bernstein, now in her 16th season.

The Wolverines captured the doubles point by winning two of three matches then proceeded to win three of four singles matches. Kari Miller won in straights sets at No. 1 singles and Lily Jones fought back from a set down to triumph at No. 4 singles. Julia Fliegner clinched match point at No. 3 singles.

Michigan will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament (April 26-30) in West Lafayette, Ind.
