Iowa and Michigan Collect Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards

Hawkeyes’ Dejnozkova and Wolverines’ Fliegner and Sartz-Lunde earn women’s tennis weekly awards

Co-Player of the Week 
Tereza Dejnozkova, Iowa 
Jr. – Prague, Czech Republic – OA Satalice – Major: Enterprise Leadership 

  • Posted a perfect 4-0 combined record leading Iowa to a pair of ranked road wins over No. 46 Illinois (4-1) and No. 38 Northwestern (4-3) 

  • Began the week with a dominant 6-1 No. 1 doubles win over Illinois, before posting a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over McKenna Schaefbauser 

  • At Northwestern, Dejnozkova earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles with partner Nikita Vishwase  

  • Clinched Iowa’s first win over Northwestern since 1992 and just the third win over the Wildcats in program history with a three-set triumph over Erica Jessel, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles 

  • Last Iowa Player of the Week: Marisa Schmidt (March 27, 2024)

Sr. – Birmingham, Mich. – Detroit Country Day – Major: Business Administration 

  • Helped Michigan rally from a 3-0 deficit for a 4-3 win over No. 10 Ohio State, putting the clinching point on the board, coming from behind in a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over No. 7-ranked Luciana Perry  

  • Led at No. 1 singles vs. Penn State’s Olivia Dorner, 6-4, 3-6, 4-2, before the match went unfinished 

  • Went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with Reese Miller 

  • Moved to 10-0 in singles action during dual matches 

  • Last Michigan Player of the Week: Julia Fliegner (Feb. 12, 2025) 

 

Freshman of the Week 
Emily Sartz-Lunde, Michigan 
Oslo, Norway – Florida Virtual School – Major: Undeclared  

  • Went 2-0 in singles as Michigan picked up wins over No. 10 Ohio State and No. 33 Penn State 

  • Put Michigan’s second point on the board as the Wolverines rallied from a 3-0 deficit against the Buckeyes for a 4-3 win 

  • Knocked off No. 87 Shelly Bereznyak (OSU), 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 singles 

  • Against Penn State, played up at No. 3 singles for the first time in her career, getting a 6-3, 7-5 win over Patricia Grigoras for Michigan’s third point in a 4-1 win 

  • Last Michigan Freshman of the Week: Jessica Bernales (Feb. 5, 2025)
