Northwestern Earns Women’s Tennis Weekly Award

Player of the Week 

Maria Shusharina, Northwestern 

Sr. – Moscow, Russia – GBOU School No. 118 – Major: Chemical Engineering  

• Went undefeated across doubles and singles for the second straight weekend, helping Northwestern to a 4-1 victory over No. 58 Purdue and a 4-0 sweep of Indiana  

• Won both of her singles matches in straight sets at the No. 1 flight, topping Purdue’s Carmen Gallardo Guevara (6-3, 6-3) and Indiana’s Nicole Teodosescu (6-1, 6-3) 

• Won 6-3 on Friday and 6-2 on Sunday with doubles partner Britany Lau. The wins improved the duo to 13-1 overall (5-1 against Big Ten opponents) 

• Shusharina is now 8-0 in Big Ten singles action, all at the No. 1 for the Wildcats, and has not dropped a match since Feb. 25, earning nine wins with one unfinished in that span
