  • The Big Ten Conference and Big Ten Network (BTN) announced a newly created In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Partnering with Discover®, the official credit card of the Big Ten Conference, the inaugural Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge will debut during the 2025 regular season conference schedule, starting Oct. 1, encompassing all 18 Big Ten Volleyball programs.  Select conference matches played during the month of October will count toward the Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Each team will play five designated challenge matches throughout the month, with the winner determined by the highest win total across the five games. Designated matches for the challenge will be noted on the adjacent schedule. 
  • Eight Big Ten volleyball programs were among this week’s AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25, announced on Monday: #1 Nebraska, #9 Wisconsin, #12 Purdue, #17 Penn State, #18 Minnesota, #22 Indiana, #23 UCLA and #25 USC. Illinois is receiving votes in this week’s poll. Nine Big Ten teams are among the latest top 25 in terms of RPI: #2 Nebraska, #10 Indiana, #12 Purdue, #15 Minnesota, #16 Wisconsin, #17 Illinois, #18 Penn State, #23 Michigan and #25 USC. The nine teams are the most of any conference within the top 25. 
  • Penn State’s Kennedy Martin was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Tuesday after earning Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Monday for the third time in 2025. The Nittany Lions went 2-0 last week, highlighted by a sweep of No. 7 Wisconsin at Rec Hall and a four-set win against Northwestern. Martin hit .438 while averaging 7.36 points, 6.71 kills, 2.14 digs and 0.71 blocks per set over the two wins. It’s the second-straight week that a Big Ten player has received the national honor and the fourth time this season. 
  • Nebraska’s Harper Murray, Penn State’s Martin and UCLA’s Marianna Singletary each earned a spot on Michella Chester’s Starting Rotation for Week 7. The trio also earned Big Ten weekly recognition on Monday. 
  • UCLA finds itself back in the AVCA Top 25 (#23) after a pair of ranked sweeps last week over No. 14 Minnesota and No. 22 USC.  
  • Indiana hosts Purdue at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET first serve on Big Ten Network. It’s the first volleyball match in the history of Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Indiana and Purdue are each among the top 12 in the latest RPI and will meet as nationally ranked opponents for the first time in matchup history. 
  • As of Wednesday, Kennedy Martin is fourth in the country, averaging 5.24 kills per set, followed by Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer at fifth with 5.11 kills per set. Martin is also second nationally with 5.97 points per set and eighth nationally with 304 total kills. 
  • Nebraska leads the country in hitting percentage (.327), with Wisconsin (3rd, .324) and Indiana (6th, .299) also among the top six nationally. The Huskers are second across Division I with a .109 opponent hitting percentage.
