Penn State Wins 2024 NCAA Volleyball National Championship

Nittany Lions win program's eighth volleyball national championship

LOUISVILLE - For the first time since 2014 and the eighth time in program history, Penn State has won the 2024 NCAA Volleyball National Championship. Penn State defeated Louisville, 3-1 (25-23, 32-34, 25-20, 25-17), on Sunday at the KFC Yum!  Center in Louisville, Ky.

For third-year head coach Katie Schumacher Cawley, it’s her first national title since taking over the program following former Nittany Lions’ head coach Russ Rose’s legendary Penn State career. Schumacher-Cawley is the first woman head coach ever to win an NCAA Volleyball National Championship.

Jess Mruzik was named the 2024 Most Outstanding Player, while teammates Camryn Hannah and Gillian Grimes and Nebraska’s Harper Murray were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mruzik buried a career-high 29 kills with a .315 hitting percentage to lead the potent Nittany Lion offense who hit .277 for the match.

Penn State earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after going 29-2 overall and 19-1 in the Big Ten on its way to its first conference title since 2017.

Penn State’s victory was the 22nd volleyball national title for a Big Ten institution.
