Purdue, Nebraska and Penn State Claim Big Ten Weekly Volleyball Honors

Boilermakers’ Hudson, Anderson, Cornhuskers’ Rodriguez and Nittany Lions’ Podraza earn recognition following Week 13

ROSEMONT, Ill.  (November 20, 2023) – The Big Ten Conference has announced this week’s Volleyball Weekly Awards for the week of November 14-19.  

Player of the Week 

Eva Hudson, Purdue

So. – Outside Hitter – Fort Wayne, Ind. – Bishop Dwenger – Major: Biomedical Health Sciences/Pre-Medicine

  • Tallied a career-high 30 kills with a .333 hitting percentage in the Boilermakers’ win over Wisconsin. Rounded out her career performance with a career-best two block solos and recorded a double-double (30 kills, 11 digs)

  • In set three vs. Wisconsin, Hudson hit .588 with 11 kills and one error on 17 attempts

  • Hudson’s 30 kills were the most by a Boilermaker since 2018

  • Led Purdue to a sweep vs. Maryland with a team-high 18 kills

  • Last Purdue Player of the Week: Raven Colvin (11/13/23)

Defensive Player of the Week 

Lexi Rodriguez, Nebraska

Jr. – Libero – Sterling, Ill. – Sterling – Major: Advertising and Public Relations

  • Led the Huskers to a Big Ten title with 5.67 digs per set in a pair of 3-0 wins vs. Michigan and at Iowa

  • Had 19 digs at Iowa on Sunday and 15 digs and four assists in the 3-0 victory over Michigan, as Nebraska held the Wolverines to a .047 hitting percentage

  • For the week, the Huskers held their two opponents to a combined .086 hitting percentage

  • Last Nebraska Defensive Player of the Week: Lexi Rodriguez (10/16/23)

Setter of the Week 

Mac Podraza, Penn State

Gr. – Setter – Sunbury, Ohio – Big Walnut – Major: Business Management Foundations

  • Averaged 12.00 assists/set while guiding Penn State to a .330 hitting percentage in wins over Michigan State (3-1) and Northwestern (3-0)

  • Added 10 digs (1.43/set) and three blocks

  • Tallied 44 assists as the Nittany Lions hit .362 against the Spartans and racked up 40 assists in three sets as the team hit .296 against the Wildcats

  • Last Penn State Setter of the Week: Mac Podraza (11/13/23)

Freshman of the Week 

Taylor Anderson, Purdue

Fr. – Setter – San Antonio, Texas – Cornerstone Christian – Major: Kinesiology

  • Produced 57 assists in Purdue’s 3-1 win vs. Wisconsin, the most assists by a Boilermaker in five years

  • Posted her seventh double-double of the season vs. Wisconsin, adding 12 digs. Also, came up with seven total blocks, matching her career-high

  • Tallied 32 assists in a sweep of Maryland to average 11.13 assists/set last week

  • Last Purdue Freshman of the Week: Chloe Chicoine (11/13/23)
