Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers Earn Weekly Field Hockey Honors

Recipients help their respective schools to wins over ranked opponents

ROSEMONT, lll. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Field Hockey Offensive, Co-Defensive and Freshman of the Week Award winners for the week of Sept. 12-14.

Offensive Player of the Week
Dionne van Aalsum, Iowa
Jr. – MF – Castricum, Netherlands – Bonhoeffer College

  • Compiled three goals and two assists for eight points over the weekend, placing seven of 10 shots on goal (.700)
  • Produced the game-winning goal — scored a minute into the game — in Iowa’s 5-1 win at Louisville on Sunday; also converted a penalty stroke for her 14th goal of the season
  • Contributed a goal and assist for the 15th-ranked Hawkeyes in a 3-1 win over No. 20 Miami on Friday
  • Earns the Big Ten Offensive Player Award for a second-straight week and for the sixth time in her career

Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Alyssa Klebasko, Maryland
Jr. – G – Odenton, Md. – Garrison Forest

  • Posted her 13th career shutout as No. 10 Maryland defeated No. 13 Saint Joseph’s, 1-0, Sunday in College Park, Md.
  • Made a season-high six saves in a 3-1 victory against Penn on Friday
  • Allowed one goal in 120 minutes of action on the weekend, helping Maryland improve its all-time record at the Terrapin Invitational to 22-2
  • Is a first-time winner of the Big Ten Defensive Player Award
  • Last Maryland Defensive Player of the Week: Josie Hollamon (Oct. 2, 2023)

Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Puck Winter, Rutgers
Gr. – B – Deventer, Netherlands – Centre for Sports and Education

  • Notched the game-winning goal 5:50 into overtime for No. 18 Rutgers in a 3-2 win over No. 16 UConn
  • Anchored a back line that did not allow the Huskies to take a shot for the final 17 minutes of regulation and overtime
  • Recorded her 26th career defensive save (second-most by a Big Ten player) on Sunday versus No. 11 Princeton; played every minute of both games on the weekend
  • The 2024 All-Big Ten selection collects her third career Defensive Player honor
  • Last Rutgers Defensive Player of the Week: Emily Nicholls (Sept. 2, 2025)

Freshman of the Week
Emily Nicholls, Rutgers
R-Fr. – G – Haddon Heights, N.J. – Camden Catholic

  • Stopped 19 of 22 shots (.864) against two ranked opponents in 132 minutes of action
  • Turned aside 13 shots in a double overtime loss to No. 11 Princeton, the most saves by a Scarlet Knight goalkeeper since 2015; also thwarted a penalty stroke attempt
  • Made six saves in Rutgers’ 3-2 overtime triumph of No. 16 UConn, handing the Huskies just their sixth loss in 25 games
  • Earns her second Big Ten weekly award of the season, having been named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2
  • Last Rutgers Big Ten Freshman Winner: Sophie Kuiper (Oct. 21, 2024)
