<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - As part of the “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest”, the Big Ten will host over 150 student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 18 Big Ten schools in Portland, Ore. from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. The program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the region’s rich history, culture and communities through an immersive educational experience.   Programming will begin Friday evening with a nature walk through Multnomah Falls to showcase the region’s deep ties to nature and the history of the Pacific Northwest landscape.    On Saturday, student-athletes will visit the Oregon Historical Society and have the chance to learn about the Japanese American West Coast experience and hear firsthand from a member of the Oregon Black Pioneers. Through discussions centered on resilience, community, and historical impact, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the individuals and stories that have shaped the Pacific Northwest.    The group will then travel to the Grand Ronde Reservation for a Veterans Powwow, which will provide an opportunity to engage with living cultural traditions and better understand the history, values and contributions of the Native American communities across the region.   The evening will conclude with a dinner at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, where student-athletes will have a hands-on discussion about the agricultural history of the region and the grape-growing operation.   The Big Life series is an immersive educational experience started in 2022 that focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Big Ten student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. With trips to Selma, Alabama; Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon attendees learn about the historical and cultural significance of the region. Since its inception, over 500 students-athletes have participated in these programs. Big Life Series Heads to the Pacific Northwest

<div class="payload-richtext">EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State field hockey student-athlete Maddie Lawlor has been selected as the national female recipient of the 2026 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award presented by Discover. She was announced as the winner Monday evening by Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti at the Spartan Academic Excellence Gala, joining Indiana’s Tyler Lillard as this year’s national honorees from a pool of 36 distinguished student-athletes representing all 18 conference institutions.“It is a great honor to present this award in Jackie Robinson’s name to these extraordinary Big Ten student-athletes,” said Petitti, “and to express our sincere appreciation for the ongoing support of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.”Lawlor was selected due to her multi-year involvement with Be The Match (now known as the National Marrow Donor Program) and her selfless journey to becoming a donor herself. During her time in East Lansing, Lawlor and the Michigan State field hockey program have led day-long bone marrow registration drives on campus each year. The events are all coordinated, promoted and worked by members of the MSU field hockey team.Through the National Bone Marrow Registry, Lawlor became a rare match for a patient in need in 2024. Without hesitation, she agreed to start the extensive and invasive process and ultimately donated her bone marrow to help save someone's life.A team captain, Lawlor finished among the Spartans leaders in goals and points - while starting all 36 games - over the last two seasons after missing the entire 2023 campaign due to injury. Off the field, the Shamong, New Jersey, native was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree during her career.Now in its second year, the Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award was established in 2025 to recognize student-athletes at Big Ten institutions who strive to have a positive impact not only in their chosen sport, but also within their community. Lillard was announced as the national male recipient last month before a practice in Bloomington by Petitti, Indiana President Pamela Whitten and Hoosiers Athletic Director Scott Dolson, surrounded by teammates and coaches.As a child, Tyler was diagnosed with epilepsy and, at the age of nine, doctors discovered a brain tumor on his optic nerve that would dramatically reduce his vision. Along with his mother, Tina, who surprised him during the award presentation, he created the Team Tyler Epilepsy Foundation to aid families with children in the hospital. He is active in mentoring young wrestlers, as well as with organizations such as Read Across America and Recess Buddies.Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. <div class="payload-richtext">Photo courtesy of Northwestern Athletics DURHAM, N.C. – For the third time in five years, Northwestern has secured a national title in field hockey after defeating Princeton, 2-1, in double overtime in the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship Game held at Jack Katz Stadium. Northwestern (22-1) defended its national title and won its third overall under Head Coach Tracey Fuchs. All three goals on Sunday were scored off penalty corners. After 43 scoreless minutes, third-ranked Princeton (18-4) struck on Beth Yeager’s shot with the third quarter winding down. Northwestern answered with 10:10 left in regulation when Kate Janssen redirected a slip pass from Ilse Tromp. Tromp provided the game-winner just 14 seconds into the second overtime as she lifted a shot from arc into the cage. Tromp’s goal completed the second come-from-behind win of the weekend for the second-ranked Wildcats, who rallied from two goals down against top-ranked North Carolina on Friday in the semifinals. Northwestern, which was making its fifth-straight appearance in the finals, also avenged its only loss of the season, a home setback to the Princeton Tigers on Columbus Day. Tromp and teammates Maddie Zimmer, Ashley Sessa and Juliana Boon were chosen to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. Zimmer was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, wrapping up her career with a third national title. Northwestern’s victory is the 13th field hockey title for a Big Ten institution.</div>

Northwestern Captures NCAA Field Hockey Championship

<div class="payload-richtext">Photo courtesy of Northwestern Athletics DURHAM, N.C. – Northwestern rallied from a two-goal deficit (twice) to upend No. 1 seed North Carolina, 4-3, in overtime in the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament Semifinals Friday afternoon. The result marked the largest comeback in the NCAA semifinals since 2011.   Northwestern (21-1) will meet No. 2 seed Princeton (18-3) in the NCAA Championship Game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. The game will be televised by ESPNU. The second-ranked Wildcats trailed 2-0 after the first quarter and didn’t pull even until 1:10 was left in regulation when Ilse Tromp scored on a penalty corner off a pass from Maddie Zimmer. Grace Shulze was credited with the game-winner 9:23 into overtime after her crossing pass was deflected into the cage by a UNC defender. NU, which is making its fifth-straight appearance in the NCAA Final, looks to defend its national title on Sunday in the quest for a third championship overall.</div>

Ranked second nationally, Northwestern (20-1) will meet top-ranked North Carolina (21-1) on Friday (Nov. 21) at 2:30 p.m. ET at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium in Durham, N.C. Friday’s first semifinal features third-ranked Princeton (17-1) versus fourth-ranked Harvard (19-1) at 12 p.m. ET. Both games will be available on ESPNU. Northwestern and North Carolina have combined to win the last seven NCAA Championships. Northwestern earned a trip to Championship Weekend with a 3-2 win against 11th-ranked Miami (Ohio), capturing an NCAA Semifinalist trophy in the process Sunday in Charlottesville, Va. Grace Schulze scored the go-ahead goal with 1:40 left in regulation. The defending national champions, Northwestern will look to make an appearance in Sunday’s final, slated for 1 p.m. ET on ESPNU.</div>
