Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern Presented Field Hockey Awards
Sessa (NU), Short (IOWA) and Arroyo Cabezudo (IND) recognized with honors
ROSEMONT, lll. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its weekly field hockey awards for games played October 23-26.
Offensive Player of the Week
Ashley Sessa, Northwestern
Jr. – F – Schwenksville, Pa. – Episcopal Academy
- Helped No. 2-ranked Northwestern capture the Big Ten regular season title with wins over No. 13 Michigan and No. 18 Ohio State
- Compiled three goals and an assist for seven points, notching her fifth multiple-goal game of the season
- Netted the game-winning goal in Northwestern’s 3-1 win over Michigan on Friday
- Leads Big Ten players with 15 assists on the season while standing second in points (43) and third in goals (14)
- Earns her second Player award in as many weeks and the sixth of her career (third this season)
Defensive Player of the Week
Milly Short, Iowa
Sr. – M/B – Worcester, England – The King’s School Worcester
- Anchored an Iowa defense that recorded back-to-back shutouts against Michigan State and No. 13 Michigan
- Played a team-high 112 minutes, limiting opposing teams to three shots on goal for the week
- Scored a second quarter goal in Iowa’s 6-0 win versus Michigan State on Thursday
- A starter in 52-straight games, receives her first conference weekly honor
- Last Hawkeye named Defensive Player of the Week: Mia Magnotta (Aug. 29, 2023)
Freshman of the Week
Celia Arroyo Cabezudo, Indiana
Fr. – F – Santander, Spain – Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús
- Produced a five-point weekend (two goals, assist) as No. 20 Indiana extended its win streak to four games
- Scored the game’s first goal in Indiana’s 2-1 overtime win over No. 18 Ohio State, the Hoosiers first win in the series since 2021
- Shares the team lead with seven goals and ranks fourth in scoring (15 points)
- Becomes first Indiana player this season tabbed Freshman of the Week
- Last Hoosier named Freshman of the Week: Sadie Canelli (Oct. 28, 2024)
