Automatic berth into NCAA Tournament on the line Sunday
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The 2025 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament presented by Allstate will feature a Top-10 showdown in the championship game Sunday at Deborah Tobias Field.
Second-ranked Northwestern (17-1), the defending NCAA champions, will meet ninth-ranked Iowa (14-4) at 12 p.m. ET in a game carried live by the Big Ten Network. The winner will receive the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The top seeded Wildcats recorded a 3-1 win over the Hawkeyes Oct. 3 in Iowa City. NU has given up the fewest goals nationally (just eight in 18 games) behind Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year Juliana Boon. Iowa features the nation's top goal-scorer in junior midfielder Dionne van Aalsum, who has 27 goals this year.
Iowa has won six Big Ten Tournaments (1981, 1994, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2019) while Northwestern has claimed two crowns (2014, 2023). The teams met once before in the finals when Iowa recorded a 2-1 win in 1994.
