Northwestern, Penn State and Rutgers Garner Field Hockey Honors

ROSEMONT, lll. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Field Hockey Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week Award winners for matches played Oct. 6-8

Offensive Player of the Week

Guillermina Causarano, Rutgers

Jr. – M – Salta, Argentina – Colegio San Pablo

  • Scored the decisive goal in overtime with a lunging tip-in to lift Rutgers to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Michigan Oct. 6 in Piscataway, N.J.

  • Launched five shots and scored Rutgers’ opening goal in 4-2 victory against in-state rival Monmouth on Oct. 8

  • Became first Rutgers player since 2018 to reach double-figures in goals (10) as the sixth-ranked Scarlet Knights (12-0) remain the lone undefeated team in the nation

  • The two-time team captain earns her first Big Ten Offensive award

  • Last Rutgers Offensive Player of the Week: Guillermina Causarano (Sept. 25, 2023)

Defensive Player of the Week

Anouk Knuvers, Penn State

Jr. – B – ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands – Stedeljik

  • Anchored the backline in Penn State’s 2-1 triumph of No. 7 Ohio State on Oct. 6

  • The starting back recorded several steals and blocks, including a shot block late in the game that preserved Penn State’s first conference win of the season

  • Assisted the Nittany Lion defense in limiting Ohio State to its lowest goal total of the season

  • The Academic All-Big Ten recipient collects her first Big Ten weekly award

  • Last Penn State Defensive Player of the Week: Elena Vos (Oct. 24, 2022)

Freshman of the Week

Ilse Tromp, Northwestern

Fr. – B – Rotterdam, Netherlands – Laurens Lyceum Rotterdam

  • Netted the opening goal in Northwestern’s 2-0 road win over No. 3 Iowa

  • Earned the start at center back, playing all 60 minutes as the No. 2 Wildcats held the Hawkeyes to four shots on goal and scoreless for the first time this season

  • With the win, Northwestern extended its win streak to 12 matches, the team’s longest streak since 1990

  • Honored with her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week award
