Northwestern advanced to Sunday's Regional Final while Michigan and Maryland were eliminated during first round action of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern (20-1) set a school record for goals in an NCAA game with a 9-2 result over Miami (Ohio). Olivia Bent-Cole and Ilse Tromp had two goals each while Ashley Sessa had a five-point day (goal, three assists). The Wildcats placed 19 shots on goal and took 30 overall playing on their home field.

Michigan fell to Virginia, 2-1, in the second game of the afternoon at Lakeside Field. Virginia opened a 2-0 lead before Michigan responded with a goal at 58:27 off the stick of Kate McLaughlin. The Wolverines (15-5) finished with an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners, missing on its last corner opportunity in the game's closing seconds.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Deep in the heart of ACC country, Maryland sustained a 1-0 loss to Duke Friday afternoon. It was the second meeting this year between the schools with the Blue Demons winning by an identical score at the ACC/Big Ten Cup in September.

The defensive battle produced just six combined shots on goal as Duke scored the lone goal in the third period. Maryland (13-7) pulled its goalkeeper with under five minutes to go but couldn't find the back of the cage with the extra attacker.
