Maryland, Northwestern and Ohio State Receive Field Hockey Honors

ROSEMONT, lll. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Field Hockey Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week Award winners for matches played Sept. 28-Oct. 1.

Offensive Player of the Week

Lauren Wadas, Northwestern

Sr. – M – Annville, Pa. – Palmyra Area

Scored the game-winning goal with 5:19 left in the fourth quarter to lift No. 3 Northwestern to a 1-0 win over No. 15 Michigan on Oct. 1 in Evanston

Provided a fourth-quarter assist in Northwestern’s 6-0 win over Michigan State

Finished the weekend with 12 total shots, including eight on goal as the Wildcats won their 11th-straight match, the school’s longest win streak since 1990

Captures the Big Ten Offensive Player award for the second time in her career

Defensive Player of the Week

Josie Hollamon, Maryland

The center back scored two goals on four shots in Maryland’s 4-2 win over No. 16 Penn State on Oct. 1

Played 67 minutes against No. 6 Rutgers, making a defensive save in a Maryland loss decided by penalty shootout

Helped the Terrapins defense hold ranked teams to a combined four goals in regulation over the weekend

Earns first Big Ten Defensive Player accolade

Played all 60 minutes in a 3-0 win at Indiana, notching a fourth-quarter goal as No. 11 Ohio State moved to 11-2 overall

The freshman ranks second on the team in goals (8) and points (18)
