Northwestern Claims Big Ten Field Hockey Championship Outright
EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern defeated Maryland, 5-1, to cap a perfect conference season and capture the 2023 Big Ten Field Hockey Championship outright Thursday afternoon at Lakeside Field. Sporting a school-record 16-match win streak, the Wildcats (16-1, 8-0 Big Ten) earn the No. 1 seed and a quarterfinals bye for next week’s Big Ten Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Northwestern becomes the 14th school in 39 seasons to go unbeaten and untied in conference competition. The Wildcats last accomplished the feat in 1988.
Coach Tracey Fuchs’ squad clinched a share of the Big Ten Championship on Sunday with a win at Rutgers, securing the school’s seventh title overall and its first since 2013.
